*Taiwan Coop Bank defeated the Meifu Giants 1-0 to win the championship game in the 2009 senior amateur spring league tourney. In a pitcher's duel, Chien-Lung Huang picked up the W after throwing a 3-hit shutout over 7 innings. The hard-luck loser was Giants starter Tsung-Hsuan Tseng, who gave up 1 run on 2 hits over 6.2 IP. TCB finished the tourney with an impressive 20-1 record, avenging their only loss to the Giants (a 5-4 loss on the 14th of May).
TaiPower earned third in the tourney, defeating Chiayi U. 5-3 in 11 innings.
In his last outing, Fubon Bulls RHP Rong-Hao Hsieh was clocked at 86-89 mph.
A look at some of the stars of the tourney (In order of appearance: Hsin-Chuan Wang-TCB, Tsung-Han Yu-TaiPower, Wen-Yang Liao-Giants, Ying-Shan Wang-Bulls, Po-Kai Lai-Bulls)
*Controversy over the selection of players for the youth NT has led Shi-Yuan junior HS coach Wu-Hsiung Huang to resign from his post of coaching the 2009 youth NT and from his head coach position at Shi-Yuan junior HS. Coach Huang led the Taichung squad (14 of the 18 players were from Shi-Yuan - the other 4 players, including Chin-De Chang were from Gao-Nong) to the Kuo-Cheng Hsieh championship. Traditionally, the winning team's head coach selects the players for the NT. LHP Hsieh, who was a member of coach Huang's Taichung squad (but attended Gao-Nong) led the team with 3 wins in the tourney - however, he was not selected for the NT, causing his jr. HS coach Lee to question Huang's decision making regarding the youth NT selection.
After this debacle, I think it's time for the whole selection process of the NT to be revamped.
