Tough day for Taiwan Baseball...

The senior national team for Chinese Taipei lost to the Italian NT 3-2 in 10 innings in a tuneup for the World Cup. Kuo Hui Lo had 5 plate appearances - went 0-2, with 3 walks - 1 intentional.
The good news for the team is that the reinforcements are coming - Chin-Lung Hu, Yung-Chi Chen, Po-Hsuan Keng, and Chi-Hung Cheng will be leaving their respective US minor league clubs shortly to join the rest of the team in Europe.

A local Wisconsin paper ran a story about Yung-Chi Chen leaving for the World Cup today. Not much to it, but worth checking out.

Lose to Italy, I can understand how a blind squrriel finds a nut once in a while, but to China? It's unacceptable.

J, thanks for that nice read. Much appreciated.

I always figured that one day China would overtake Taiwan in baseball. I just didn't expect them to start winning against Taiwan this soon. Anyways, the Taiwanese team that lost to China is made up of mostly college kids. No excuses though, a loss is still a loss. Any fan of baseball has to be impressed at how rapidly China is developing baseball.

China would never overtake Taiwan in baseball, Taiwan has had baseball tradition ever since the Hong Yeh (Read Leaf) LL team. The day when China can compete against Taiwan in baseball, is the day when Taiwan can compete against China in basketball.
