Taiwanese NT in Action...

NT:
The Taiwanese NT played the Perth Heat today. The two teams played to a 5-5 tie. Up 5-3 heading into the 9th inning, Ming-Chieh Hsu (Seibu Lions) blew the save when he allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in the 9th inning. Chih-Lung Huang, the 18 year old starting pitcher for Taiwan, allowed 3 runs on 5 hits over 3 innings - he had 3 K's and 2 walks. Relievers, Fu-Te Ni (CT Whales) and En-Yu Lin (Rakuten Eagles) threw a shutout over the next 5 innings in impressive fashion.
Offensively, the kids playing in the US represented themselves well. Mariners farmhand Kuo-Hui Lo was 2-5 with a RBI and a SB, hitting the game's only HR. BoSox minor leaguer Chih-Hsien Chiang was 2-4 with a walk and a SB. Cleanup hitter Tai-Shan Chang (Sinon Bulls)struggled, as he K'd 3 times in 4 AB's. Chang's two CPBL teammates fared slightly better: Chien-Ming Chang was 1-4 while Chun-Chang Yeh was 2-3 with 2 RBI's. The other CPBL notable, Cheng-Min Peng (Brother Elephants) was 1-5 with a RBI. The 3 amateur starters for Taiwan represented themselves well - LF Chih-Yao Chan was 1-3/3B Yi-Chuan Lin was 1-5 with a double and a RBI/SS Han Lin was 2-5. Box Score/Play-By-Play

AFL:

At first i thought maybe Ni's good performance in the cpbl was because taiwanese players dont hit lefty's well. but i guess he really is pretty good.

I remember seeing Ni when he came over to the US in the summer of '05. At the time, he was overshadowed by pitchers Hong-Wen Chen and Ying-Feng Tsai. Ni only got in a few innings of work on that tour. It's good to see him blossom into a star.
