Three in a row......

Taiwan lost it's 3rd consecutive game to Colombia on Friday 3-2. This was Colombia's 1ST win in the tourney. With this loss, Taiwan has sealed it's own fate, and will head home after the 3 remaining games in preliminary play. Hopefully Taiwan can beat one of the 3 teams left and salvage some lost pride.

Yung-Chi Chen had a good game, going 2-4 with a BB and a RBI
Ching-Lung Hu was 1-4
Kuo-Hui Lo was 1-4
Chun-Yu Kuo was 1-4

The showing in this tourney and the 2004 Olympics really showed that Taiwan has lost some ground the last 2 years against other countries. I don't know if they can even finish 8th (middle of the pack) in next spring's 16 country World Baseball Classic.

Taiwan needs to find and develop premium talent like Chen, Tsao, Wang, and Kuo. The problem is two-fold: keeping them healthy has been a big issue, and these kinda guys only come along every couple of years.

I'll hold reservation on the state of Taiwan baseball until after I see how they fare against Japan and South Korea next spring. But then again, I don't even know if Tsao and Chang, or even Wang to a lesser extent, will be healthy enough to pitch for Taiwan next year.

The glory of the '92 Olympics, and 2001 World Cup is fading; hopefully we'll see some sign in the near future that Taiwan baseball is alive and well.
