Wed. Scores...

Amateur:
The World Youth Baseball Championships have been cancelled. Good to see the IBAF take action against the perpetrator(s) - although ultimately it's the kids who suffer the repercussions.

In the Pony League World Series, Taiwan defeated Chesterfield, VA 7-2 today. It's do or die now as Taiwan will play Puerto Rico tomorrow at 2:30 PM Pacific. Listen here. Should Taiwan win on Thursday, it would have to face Puerto Rico again on Friday (double elimination preliminary format).

The Taiwanese junior NT will play two tomorrow.

Taiwan will be making its first appearance in the 2007 LLWS on ESPN2 at 3:00 PM Pacific on Friday. Taiwan will be facing Latin American champ - Maracaibo, Venezuela.

US MINORS:
Chao-Kuan Wu has retired - the Indians and former Mariner farmhand will attempt to revive his career in the CPBL. He follows CFC, Kevin Huang, and TJ Yeh as players whose dream to play in the MLB ended prematurely (in CFC's case - not getting an ample opportunity in the ML's) and ultimately ended up back home.

R - The Red Sox won 2-1. CH Huang was 0-1 with 2 walks and a RBI. Box CH Lin should be back in action as early as this weekend.*edited

R - Bristol lost 7-1. PY Lin earned his 4th loss of the season after he allowed 7 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits over 3.1 IP - he did have 6 K's and 3 BB's. Box

A ss - Tri-City is in a 2-2 tie in the 3rd inning. SA Kuo is pitching for Tri-City. Box

A - Greenville lost 7-5. Chiang was 0-4 with 3 K's. Box

AA - Tulsa is tied at 4 runs a-piece with its opponent. CL Lo (will earn a ND) started and lasted 5.1 innings, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits - he had 7 K's, 5 BB's, and hit 2 batters. Box

AAA - Vegas won 8-4 in game 1 of a doubleheader. Hu hit HR #5 and was 1-4 with 2 RBI's and had a SB. Box Game 2 will be underway shortly.

NPB:
The Tigers lost 2-0 as the offense was limited to 3 hits. WC Lin was 1-3. Box

CPBL:
Whales 3 - Bulls 1:
Lorenzo Barcelo was game MVP for his strong performance against the Bulls. LB allowed 1 run (0 earned) on 5 hits over 7 IP - he picked up victory #5. Offensive production from the Whales came from Chun-Chiang Kao who hit HR #6 and Yi-Min Wang who hit his first HR of the year. Tarzan was 1-4 for the Bulls.

I hope our little leaguers go deep into the tourney this year. I've been watching a little bit of the US divisional championships and I must say they are all pretty impressive. The US kids are all pretty big and very capable as both hitters and pitchers. I think Taiwan, with its smaller size, will face tough competition but I have faith in our skills and I'll be rooting for them throughout the week! Go Taiwan!

This "trickle-down" system is pretty efficient, with US flameouts trickling down to the CPBL. Although I wonder why Chao-kuan Wu left when he was hitting .280.

our boys lost out to PR in the pony series... it was a very close game with our starter K'ing a good 11 to 12 batters and lasting pretty much the whole game. We absolutely outhit PR but we sadly couldnt capitalize on these hits. we had atleast 11 but only scored 2- while ending 2 consecutive innings with the bases loaded. final score 4-2 with the score tied till the top of the 7th when they scored 2

I think Wu was fed up with his lack of PT - he only had 25 AB's this year . Last year he only got 166 AB's.

Good recap of the PWS - SP Lee sounds like a name to remember for the future.

Wang pitches Sunday.

Wu was nothing to the Indians other than being Sung-Wei Tseng's sidekick. CPBL's level is about AA, and he knew he was never likely to reach that level in the Minor League.
