*In the semifinals of the collegiate/industrial league spring tourney, the final four standing were: the Meifu Giants, Chiayi University, Taiwan Coop Bank, & Taiwan Power Co.

CH Lin

In the first semi, the Meifu Giants (Chinese Culture University) defeated Chiayi U. 10-0.
Giants starter Chen-Hua Lin threw 7 shutout innings, scattering 3 hits (2 K's, 1 BB) to pick up the W.

Taiwan Coop Bank defeated TaiPower 7-1 in the other semifinal. Chia-Chun Tang picked up the win for TCB after relieving starter Chia-Ming Cheng. Tang's line for the night: 8.1 IP, 0 R, 7 H, 4 K's/BB's. DH Shen-Fu Tsai was 2-4 with 3 RBI to help bolster the lead for TCB.


*In preparation for the 14th World Youth Championships to be held in August in Taichung, Taiwan - the 2009 Youth NT has been announced. The team is highlighted by a few big names including Lee-Wei Chiang, Chin-De Chang, Chi-Wei Lin, and Lee-Jen Chu.

*Rumor has it that Adam Chang/IBB (represented PY Lin and CA Huang) is quitting his side job as an agent.

*Here's a follow up on Chen-Hua Lin - the RHP (side armer) who was linked to the Minnesota Twins earlier. Lin, currently at CCU in Taiwan, almost signed with the Twins while he was at Chung-Dau HS in Yilan, Taiwan. The Twins lost out on CH Lin (who was pushed by his HS coach to sign) when Lin's dad decided at the last minute that the ~$100K signing bonus was too low. Lin's throwing motion (arm angle) has been changed and he is throwing out of the 3/4 arm slot now.

Chinese Culture University won the just completed collegiate tourney (Mei-Hua Flag Tourney) today, winning 8-1 in the championship game. The star of the game was CCU's SP Kai-Wen Cheng who allowed 1 run on 3 hits over 7 IP - he also had 6 K's. Cheng is a former youth and junior NT standout, who won the 2000 Bronco Division Pony League World Series and basically single-handedly defeated the Cuban junior NT and shut down the US junior NT last year. The CCU team was loaded with talent as the roster also included: RHP Chia-Jen Lo (who throws in the low 90's), sidearmer RHP Chen-Hua Lin, & recent HS graduate C Chia-Chu Chen.

Other stars in the tourney included IF/C Chun-Hsiu Chen who hit the most HR's and had the most RBI's in the tourney and LHP Hung-Cheng Lai who was 2-0 in the tourney with a sparkling 0.00 ERA.*Updated*

All About the Twins and the Lins.....

Amateur News:
The Minnesota Twins have entered the Che-Hsuan Lin sweepstakes as a serious player for the kid's services alongside the Red Sox, Mariners, and Cubs. The Twins who already have 18 year old OF Wang-Wei Lin (First up at the plate in the vid below) in their system, sent their international scouting director, their scout in Asia, and their Taiwanese scout to see C.H. Lin.
The Twins are also rumored to have signed Chen-Hua Lin, a 6'1" sidearm throwing RHP. The teenager has been clocked as high as 89 mph.

AA - Jacksonville won 4-1. Hu got back on track as he was 3-5 to raise his BA to .380 . He also had his 6th SB of the season. Box

A - Greenville lost 6-1, but Chiang was 2-4 with 2 doubles. Box

NPB:
The Fighters lost to the Hawks 4-2. C.S. Yang was 0-3 hitting out of the 9 hole. Box*Updated* Wei-Chu Lin was 4-5 with a HR, a double, and 2 RBI's. Despite his sterling performance at the plate, the Tigers lost 6-5 to the Giants. Box

CPBL:
Cobras 7 - Whales 3: Cobras 2B Shih-Yang Deng was Game MVP as he cracked his 3rd HR of the season and was 2-4 with 3 RBI's. Whales RF/3B Chun-Chiang Kao was 3-4 with 2 RBI's and hit the game's other HR, his 2nd of the season.
Elephants 3 - Bears 0: The Elephants won behind the strength of starting pitcher Yu-Cheng Liao's gem of a game. Liao shut down the vaunted Bears offense with 7 shutout innings and allowed only 3 hits. He also had 5 K's and 2 walks. Liao picked up his first win of the season and for his efforts, earned Game MVP honors. Slugger C.M Peng hit his league-leading 12th HR of the season as he was 1-2 with a RBI and 2 walks. Opposing slugger CFC was 1-3 with a walk.

Amateur baseball updates.....

This past week, new national winners were crowned for infantile (11-12), high school, and adult - college aged divisions.

In the senior league (college) championships, the National College of Physical Education defeated Jiayi University by a score of 9 to 0.
From this division, names to remember for the future include: NCPE winning pitcher Chia-Chun Tang and Jiayi pitcher Che-Yi Su


In the junior (high school) tourney, PingZhen High School won the championship by defeating Hualien H.S. 5 to 4. Yilan beat Taitung 7 to 4 for third place.
Among the HS kids, names to remember include:
1)Hung-Cheng Lai (P) - throws lefty, HS senior, 5'9"tall, has been clocked at 90 mph, member of junior national team, a good athlete: reputed to have been timed at 11 seconds in the 100m dash, has been scouted by the Boston Red Sox
2)Wei-Da Su (P)
3)Jiang-Cho Chen (P) - 6'0 tall, junior in HS, clocked as fast as 90 mph
4)Chen-Hua Lin (P) - 6'0 tall, throws ~ 85 mph


In the infantile division (11-12 year olds), a team from Yilan defeated a team from Taitung 7-6 to win the championship.
