Rumored Signing: Min-Tzu Chen
The Seattle Mariners are rumored to have signed RHP Min-Tzu Chen (tops out at 94 mph, but has had a history of elbow problems) for $150 K.
It's good to see the Mariners continue to sign players in Taiwan despite their lack of success (Chao-Kuan Wu, Yung-Chi Chen, Chia-An Huang, Kuo-Hui Lo, Yao-Wen Chang).
*CMW has rejoined the Nationals, agreeing to a one year $1 million guaranteed deal (worth up to $5 million with incentives). This news comes on the heels of the awkward public display put on by CMW's reps Octagon and the CPBL. (The CPBL blasted Octagon for communicating with the league through the media rather than directly with the league and giving false facts to the public.)

3/1 News Updates....
*Manny is a possible go for the trip to Taiwan. The Dodgers will now play 3 exhibition games in Taiwan.
Impressive stats for HC Kuo
*The La New Bears defeated a South Korean collegiate team 4-2 on 2/22. The Elephants lost 3 exhibition games to Chiayi University, Taiwan Coop Bank, & TSU.
*Bears lefty Si-Yo Wu was being investigated for his possible role in the gambling scandal. He admitted his guilt and was released by the Bears.
*The CPBL is seeking a 3 game series versus the KBO champs.
*NPB news on lefty ace Chen:
-Chen perfect through 5
-Chen throwing a helluva lotta pitches in ST
*The latest news has 8 MLB teams checking out righty Min-Tzu Chen:
At the invitation of his agent (Jack Fang of Rights Inc.), scouts from the Cubs, Mariners, Royals, Tigers, Braves, A's, Pirates, and the Red Sox went to Taichung to watch RHP Min-Tzu Chen pitch, including Royals' International Scouting Director Rene Francisco and Mariners' Pacific Rim Scout Pat Kelly. RHP Chen faced Elephants star OF/DH Cheng-Min Peng and got Peng to ground out. RHP Chen pitched 2 innings without giving up a hit and had 2 strikeouts, topping out at 92 mph. An interesting note is that the CTBA and Student Baseball Association allowed RHP Chen to participate in the tournament even though he has official agent representation.
Here's Chen's facebook page. The kid'll need to watch what he posts since you never know who (future employers?) may be perusing his page:
"... Yesterday I got drunk~ Drunk to the point that I went home without any clothes on~ Unbelievable~"
"... Drunk isn't the point~ The point is I was able to go home wearing only pants~ Unbelievable~"
*CJ Lo impressive
*Che-Hsuan Lin is in the starting lineup for the Red Sox's Wed. game versus Northeastern.
*Fu-Te Ni is scheduled to pitch tomorrow.

Prospect Update: MT Chen..
Taiwan PE University recently converted RHP - Min-Tzu Chen (was in LA back in '08 for a showcase) has had several workouts lately, flashing a 90-93 mph fastball and a good delivery. However the righty is raw; he's only been a pitcher for 3 months (Chen is a former OF) hence leading to him having trouble repeating his delivery and arm slot. His command and secondary offerings are raw. He's shown the ability to throw a curveball, changeup, and a slider. He is currently being represented by Rights Inc.'s Jack Fang after firing his previous agency - IBB/ISA. The Royals and Padres have made offers in the $150-200 K range.

Brief Updates....
Well, I'm still away from home, so I'll try to keep this brief.
*The boys looked good in their opening win (16-0) at the LLWS versus Germany on Friday.
Box
Recap
*Congrats to the boys from Taitung County for their PWS championship run - impressive when you consider how they won 5 in a row after losing their opening game.
*The youth NT earned a bit of redemption by beating Japan on Saturday. They will now face South Korea for 5th place in the tourney.
*Kai-Nan University LHP Hua-Wei Lo has returned from a tryout at the Yokohama BayStar camp without receiving a contract offer.
*Agent Chien-Chen Chen (Eric Chen) is trying to sign Kai-Nan University LHP Yi-Ming Tsai (incoming freshman) as a client, receiving help from Kai-Nan University head coach Chien-Fu Kuo-Lee ('92 Olympic star). Tsai, who is 6'4'' 190 pounds with an 85-87 mph fb, previously received interest from New York Yankees scout Ken Su. Tsai has had elbow surgery in the past.
*Agent Jack Fan reportedly held a showcase in Taichung on 8/20 for RHP Po-Cheng Chi, who has recently recovered from biceps tendonitis and a leg infection; Cultural University RHP Kuo-Yu Lin; RHP Wen-Yang Liao; and OF Min-Tzu Chen.
*Red Sox minor leaguer Che-Hsuan Lin earned two awards in the best tools category (as voted upon by league managers in the Class A Carolina League): Best Defensive OF and Best OF Arm.
