LL:
There will be no Williamsport this year for the kids from Taiwan. In a do-or-die game, Taiwan lost to Hong Kong 4-1 on Wednesday. Hong Kong will now face Guam in the Asia-Pacific championship game on Thursday for the right to play in Pennsylvania.

Wth? how did we lose to hk?
Go guam!
sigh.... it's gonna stink not being able to cheer for our boys in this year's LLWS... :(
yeah, sucks hard. Guess I'll root for HK now to beat the pacific team. I'll go root for our Bronco team to win it all instead.
Is this an example of Taiwan's best 11-12 year old teams playing in the Bronco/Pony tournament instead of the LLWS tournament?
Lazy - Without a doubt.....
Terror, why do we send our most talented teams to the Bronco division of Pony ball instead of Little League? Little League is aired on TV by ESPN and has alot more coverage and is more well known than Pony ball. There must be a particular reason. I remember them talking about the ace of our LL team and he pitched like 65 mph while the ace of our Bronco team pitches a 80 mph heater.
One of the reasons is that in the past (before Taiwan withdrew from LL in '97) some of the best teams from Taiwan use to draw an all-star team from one elementary school (we know how densely populated some of the bigger cities in Taiwan are). However LL deemed the school as being in an area with too large of a population.
For other reasons, I recommend reading Jun-Wei Yu's book "Playing in Isolation."
yeah, Taiwan is very heavily populated. With that rule in place, it would really hurt densely populated places like Taiwan and HK. Are you saying that many of the teams we sent in the past(pre 97) were teams from that elementary school and since the LL deemed that school to be in an area with too large a population they now send that schools team to the Bronco division? Is it the Hong Ye(red leaf)? Even with that Elementary school out of the choice, doesnt Taiwan have a bunch of other talented kids at other schools. What makes that school so special that they basically breed LL All-star teams?
